What Is Sciatic And How Do We Treat It?
Sciatica is basically a compressed nerve. It is generally caused by the specific nerve, the sciatic nerve being compressed. Some of the known causes include lumbar spine subluxations, bulging discs, herniated discs, pregnancy and childbirth, tumors, and non-spinal disorders like constipation or diabetes.
Patients who suffer from sciatica are best served with an individual treatment plan. Sciatica treatment is very specific to the specific person. It is important to understand that what works for one person may not work for another, even if they have the same back issues.
Diagnostic testing includes an x-ray, MRI, CT scan and/or electrodiagnostic tests (nerve conduction velocity, electromyography). These examinations and tests help to detect possible contraindications to spinal adjustments and other chiropractic therapies.
At Spennetta Family Chiropractic Clinic some of the treatments we may use include: physical therapy, chiropractic, heat and ice therapy, injections, traction, cold laser or spinal decompression with the DRX-9000.
